Almost eighteen months ago I posted this picture and said goodbye to freelancing to join the team at ilovedust. A lot has happened there in the intervening time - I’ve worked on projects for some of my dream list of clients, drawn alongside some fantastically talented individuals, made some good friends, and I got to hang out near Karl Lagerfeld and drunkenly accost Rosario Dawson.
Outside of life in the studio I had the best day of my life when I got married (to the very wonderful and supremely talented Harriet Seed), did more work for other dream clients and tried to juggle my own work with a long day job that was at the wrong end of a hour and half commute. I tried to reconcile my own style of working with that of being in a studio which for better or worse was very different. I also read this article which made me stop and pause about how much of my life was being consumed by my job. If you haven’t read it, take a moment to - I’ll wait.
Which is a roundabout way of getting to the fact that come January 1st 2013, I will be once again striking out as a freelancer. I’ve had a good run at ilovedust, but in all honesty it’s not for me, and for now I’m very happy to once again be drawing full time under my own name. I’m looking forwards to being able to go for a run by the sea in the morning and get coffee on the way home from my local cafe. I’m looking forwards to spending more time with my wife in our studio. I’m looking forwards to a bunch of new projects that I’ve already lined up. I’m looking forwards to what comes next.
Into the wild blue yonder once more!
